I read a lot.
Books, blogs, biographies, BuzzFeeds, Whitepapers.
I can't pinpoint all my favourite reads, the list would go on... BUT, I can give you my list of books that helped inspire my insights on business and life:

GOOD TO GREAT

Author: Jim Collins
Category: Business

This is an essential business read, and a book I return to as reference many times.  Jim Collins outlines and goes into depth on key management and team building ideas that are the keystone for many successful corporations.  Many companies, businesses and corporations use a lot of Jim's management and team building principles, and in my opinion, GOOD TO GREAT is one of those must-read business books for anyone looking to build success. One of my all-time favourite quotes, because of its' sheer simplicity and strength, is:

“Get the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seats.” - Jim Collins

IF YOU HAVE TO CRY GO OUTSIDE

Author: Kelly Cutrone
Category: Business, Life, Love

Since watching THE HILLS & THE CITY (yes, we all secretly miss LC, Whitney and even Justin Bobby...), I was immediately drawn to Kelly Cutrone, PR maven and HBIC* at People's Revolution. I loved her no-bullshit, no-nonsense, crass way of doing business and running a team. Her first book IF YOU HAVE TO CRY GO OUTSIDE (by the way, best book title ever) was an instant buy for me. I love reading people's stories and I knew I would enjoy this from front to back. It's packed with great no-frills advice and quotes for anyone starting out on their career path.

“When you leave home to follow your dreams, your road will probably be riddled with potholes, not always paved in happy Technicolor bricks. You'll probably be kicked to the ground 150 million times and told you're nuts by friends and strangers alike. As you progress you may feel lonely or terrified for your physical and emotional safety. You may overestimate your own capabilities or fail to live up to them, and you'll surely fall flat on your face once in a while.” - Kelly Cutrone

* FYI: HBIC = Head Bitch In Charge

THE SWEET LIFE

Author: Dulce Candy Ruiz
Category: Life

As I mentioned, I love reading people's stories, and from start to finish you gain respect and create a kindred admiration for YouTube sensation Dulce Candy Ruiz, who started humble, put in the work, built a thick skin and continues to inspire. It is very inspiring, from her humble roots, to her time in the army, to turning her passion in beauty into her own YouTube empire. It is a short, easy read - but, it is a great inspirational read for anyone looking to inspire their own passions and build a personal brand.

“Keep your role models close but your mentors closer.” - Dulce Candy Ruiz

BY INVITATION ONLY

Authors: Alexis Maybank & Alexandra Wilkis Wilson
Category: Business

Building a new business from scratch is tough and courageous, but inspiring all at the same time. From the founders of GILT, BY INVITATION ONLY is a behind the scenes look at the launch of one of the first online fashion sample-sale sites, and in my opinion one of the most interesting retail launches in the past decade. From meeting the right business partners and engineers, to getting high-end designers to sign on, development coding woes and marketing through networking - it is a great story and read for anyone with an interest in e-commerce and the business of fashion. I'm always drawn to women in business who have a clear vision and work hard for it, but what differentiates this book is the friendship and working relationship between Alexis and Alexandra. It's an excellent primer for anyone looking to launch a scalable business, and also anyone looking to get into business with close friends.

"We had created a website that could potentially change the rules of retail, for both shoppers and brands. If shopping was traditionally a slow, leisurely activity that might consume an entire day, it would now be competitive, addictive, urgent, thrilling—a rush delivered at the same time each day. Shopping would become not just easier, but so much fun." - Alexis Maybank & Alexandra Wilkis Wilson

HAPPY READING, KMV
